Today I want to share with you one of the founding beliefs of Summit Strength, and something which forms the foundation of everything I do with my training for hiking. Pre-made, 'cookie-cutter' programs are a plague on the adventure community. I am sure you have come across many of these online before. And at first glance, they can often look great! They are free, simple and seem to be precisely what you are looking for... Unfortunately, the majority of these programs are written by hikers themselves and not qualified (or experienced) coaches. This leads to about 99% of them having massive blind spots when it comes to injury prevention, efficient strength development and practicality. Sure, people can succeed with these programs, but there are SO many hikers who they don't work for. And these programs are doing an incredible disservice to people, who are simply looking for some solution to their problem (i.e. get fit for a hiking adventure or overcome an ache or pain which is troubling them on the trail).
