Inside this intro episode learn who this podcast is for, who I am and what it is all about! If you are trying to Get Fit For Trekking it can sometimes be difficult to know exactly you should be doing. And there is SO much information out there, it can get incredibly confusing!
Love them or hate them, treadmill workouts are often a big part of a hiker's or trekker's training. And while people can argue the fact that they "don't mimic real hiking", "change your gait" or "have no downhills" (which are all true) - for the pure sake of convenience they are here to stay.
I had the pleasure of featuring as a guest on the Pursuit Of The Outdoors podcast, hosted by John Feeney from The Hiking Society.
Are you constantly huffing and puffing at the top of long hills? Do you struggle to hold a conversation whenever you are climbing a set of stairs? Do you constantly find yourself dropping behind the pack every time you hit some elevation? Well if this is you, I have some bad news for you... no matter how much you hike, this probably isn't going to change. Knee pain while hiking and trekking is an incredibly common issue. In fact, is is one of the most prevalent injuries in the adventure world. And you suffer from hiker's knee (and it is sucking a lot of the enjoyment out of your trail time) here is a simple workout to help: I had the pleasure of chatting with Carl and Derek on the Backpacking and Blisters Podcast. On this guest appearance we chat through strength training for hikers, injury prevention for the trail and all things physical preparation for adventure. Hiking and trekking are sports for all body shapes and sizes. And with the right training, absolutely everyone should be happy to step onto any trail they desire.
But lets face it, if you are carrying a few extra kilos, hiking can really grind you up. And if you are trying to follow a traditional trek training program, and do all of your training on the trail, you are just asking for trouble... |
