Hiking and trekking are sports for all body shapes and sizes. And with the right training, absolutely everyone should be happy to step onto any trail they desire.
But lets face it, if you are carrying a few extra kilos, hiking can really grind you up. And if you are trying to follow a traditional trek training program, and do all of your training on the trail, you are just asking for trouble... Go on any hiking, trekking or adventure forum and you will see the same words repeated over and over: 'The best way to train for hiking, is to go hiking'... And this is true, but only up to a point... There are many times when hiking isn't the best way to train for hiking. And when doing all your training on the trail, might be doing you more harm then good... Lower back pain is an incredibly common issue for hikers and trekkers.
Long hours on your feet, heavy packs and our modern lifestyle is a perfect perfect recipe for pain. And while back pain is an incredibly complex subject and everyone has their own root causes of this issue, which should always be diagnosed and treated by a physio... There are a number of things which just about every trekker can do to help their pain... Descents can be tough. Shooting pain in the knees... crushed toes... slips, stumbles and falls... some serious amount of mental drain... and all too often, uncontrollable jelly legs.
And if this always seems to be happening to you while hiking, there might be one thing which is missing in your preparation... Foot Pain While Trekking and Hiking is an incredibly common issue. Whether it is from plantar fasciitis, heels spurs or simply from a rolled ankle, it be a real annoyance. But all too often I see people completely avoid their training because of this...
