My name is Rowan Smith, and I am a personal trainer for hikers, trekkers and mountaineers.
And there is one thing which I firmly believe: A structured strength and conditioning program is the single best thing you can to get ready for the trail. There is absolutely no other type of training which is more specific, more time-efficient and more effective than this approach. And that is what the Ready To Adventure Program is all about. To give your training the structure and direction it needs, to get you fit, strong and resilient for any adventure you set your mind to. Now I will be honest... This program doesn't come with much support. Or accountability. Or added education or bonuses. But if you are self-motivated, and simply need some guidance on how best to direct your time and energy into your training, this is for you. |

Q: What does the training include?
A: The training generally will include a range of strength training, hiking specific conditioning, mobility work and trail time. The make-up and composition of this will depend on your preferences, goals and needs. |
Q: How long does the training go?
A: There is no set time limit for the Ready To Adventure Program (and no lock-in contract). If you are preparing for a significant adventure, we recommend 16-weeks (as a minimum). However, if you simply want to keep fit and strong for any adventure life throws are you, this can be done in perpetuity. |
Q: What if I have a question during the training?
A: This program does not come with unlimited support and coaching. If you have a question about your training, you are free to post on our Facebook Group. Aside from that, you are entitled to a once a month coaching touchpoint via email. |
Q: Do I need any equipment?
A: The program is tailored around what equipment you currently have access to. If you can get to a gym, we will work that in. If you only have your hiking pack and the great outdoors, then we will work around that too. |
Q: What if I realise I need a bit of extra help?
A: If you sign up for the Ready To Adventure Program and realise you might need some additional support, accountability and coaching, you are free to upgrade to the Online Summit Program anytime. |
Q: I have never done any training before (or haven't trained in years), will this be appropriate for me?
A: The training is tailored to your training history and needs. It can cater to first-time hikers, who haven't exercised in years, all the way to lifelong mountaineers, who have a big peak in their sights. |
Q: I have an injury or recurring pain. Will this program help?
A: If you have a history of injury or pain, you can still join up on this program. We will do our best to tailor the programming around the issue. However, if you did want to properly get on top of the issue (rather than just working around it), we strongly urge you to look at the Pain-Free Hiker Series, which offers a much more comprehensive solution. |
