When it comes to training success, there are two qualities that give you a HUGE advantage. And over the years, I have seen people who have these things see some incredible results from their training. Let me tell you more: I have been coaching, in one shape or form, for over 15 years.
I have been training hikers for over 7 years. Over the years, I directly helped hundreds and hundreds of people in their training journeys (and indirectly helped many, many more). During that time, when it comes to the people who see the best results from their training, two qualities separate them from the others. (This isn't just people who I have worked with directly, but also people who are going through their training journeys by themselves or with others) Now, to know if you have these qualities, you can ask yourself these two questions: 1) Do you know what you need to be doing? 2) Can you stay consistent with it? On the surface, they are pretty simple. But when you get a bit deeper, there are a lot of layers to this. So let me break it down a bit: *Do you know what you need to be doing in your training to meet your goals? So many people out there just don't know what they should be doing with their training, to best help their goals. Should they be doing HIIT? Or Zone 2 cardio? Should they be running? Or climbing hills? Should they be doing strength training? What exercises should they be doing? What reps? Or speed? There are countless ways to approach training, and figuring out what is right for you and your goals can be a minefield. So ask yourself, are you confident you know what exercises and workouts will best serve you for your goals? On top of that, do you know how to adjust things to improve and ensure you are moving forward? Or if you have a setback, how can you change things to accommodate that? All of this is important. And really deserves some deep thought. *Can you stay consistent with your training? The best training plan in the world won't do you any good if you are not consistent with it. So, when you think about training, ensuring you remain consistent demands some attention. Are you confident that you can stay consistent with your plan, week to week? Do you know how to maintain that consistency, even if life throws a few curve balls your way? (e.g. if life gets busy, if you get sick, if the weather gets horrible, or anything else like that). Do you know how to help your consistency when your motivation drops or if your energy is low? All of these factors are important. And again, they are worth taking some time to consider properly. === Ultimately, if you can answer 'yes' to both of these questions, I can confidently have a really good chance of success with your training. And I strongly encourage you to go out and make it happen! But if you answered 'no', it isn't the end of the world but a sign that you may need some help. Maybe you need a training buddy to help you with consistency week to week. Or maybe you need to download a basic training plan so you can just follow along with some recommended training. Or maybe you might need an expert in the field who can provide the direction, support and accountability to get you where you need to be. And if that is the case, I would love to chat with you.
